Kneipp, with more than 125 years of experience, offers natural body care products, infusions and supplements. Their shower gels and lotions give you pleasant aromas, the infusions maintain your well-being during the day and they have a special product to relax and sleep well at night
In 1890, Sebastian Kneipp met Leonhard Oberhäußer, a pharmacist from Würzburg. They both shared the idea of using natural methods for healing and became good friends and close collaborators. Together they created formulas using natural plant extracts and other pure ingredients that still inspire Kneipp® products today.
In 1891, Sebastian Kneipp entrusted his friend Leonhard Oberhäußer with the exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and distribute pharmaceutical and cosmetic products as well as dietary foods under the name "Mr. Parish Priest Sebastian Kneipp". This marked the beginning of Kneipp®. During these years, pills, teas, vegetable juices, plant powders, tinctures and extracts, as well as special medications, were made, all based on Kneipp's formulas. Leonhard Oberhäußer was responsible for shipping these products.
After Sebastian Kneipp's death in 1897, Leonhard Oberhäußer continued to produce remedies and products based on Kneipp's formulas and took them to places beyond his native country.
1919-1945 The company was called "Kneipp-Mittel-Zentrale". Hermann Oberhäußer, the son of Leonhard Oberhäußer, took over the management of the business in the second generation. The company prospered and moved to a new location in Würzburg, where they also began to supply pharmacies.
1945-1951 After the bombings at the end of World War II, the city of Würzburg was severely damaged and the company had to temporarily move to the Würzburg Vinegar Factory. At this point, "Kneipp-Werke" became independent from the Engel pharmacy and became an autonomous company. Luitpold Leusser, nephew of Hermann Oberhäußer, and his future wife Mareille Bene took over the management of "Kneipp-Werke".
1951-1979 The third generation of the family, led by pharmacist and senator Luitpold Leusser, ran the company, which officially changed its name to "Kneipp-Heilmittel-Werk". The company moved to a new building in Würzburg in 1958 and also established a presence in Bad Wörishofen.
1979-1996 Manufacturing was centralized in Würzburg-Heidingsfeld in 1979. They expanded to produce oils, bath salts and vegetable juices. The company then diversified into massages, mud applications and other wellness treatments.
1996-2001 The management of the company passed to Susanne Boecker after the death of Luitpold Leusser in 1996. In 2001, the company entered into a partnership with PAUL HARTMANN AG.
2001 In 2001, Mareille Leusser and Erika Oberhäußer left the company, and PAUL HARTMANN AG acquired 80% of the shares in "Kneipp".
2005 Dietmar J. Salein took over the business management in 2005. The company was reorganized and repositioned under the motto "Kneipp has been running. Since 1891".
April 2008 PAUL HARTMANN AG bought the remaining 20% of Susanne Boecker's shares, becoming the sole shareholder of "Kneipp".
2008 - 2016 Management changes and significant international expansion were made. The company continued to be based on the principles of Sebastian Kneipp.
