Ingredients

Anti-caking agents: silicon dioxide, vegetable magnesium stearate.
Coating agents: Amido acetylate (E1420), talc, glycerol, colors (E129, E102).

and significantly more effective, thanks to the action of Metolose®, a natural polymer that makes them gastro-resistant, so that the harpagoside (its active ingredient) is protected against the attack of gastric juices, almost completely reaching the duodenum, which assimilates it by 95%.
The beneficial effect of harpagoside is amplified by the presence of other active ingredients obtained by natural extraction and which constitute the complete phytochemical spectrum of the plant. This is confirmed by laboratory research on the synthesis and isolation of the molecule; it has been shown that isolated (or synthesized) harpagoside is not as effective as the natural extract. Natural extracts of Harpagophytum procumbens, obtained by hydro-alcoholic extraction from the secondary roots of the plant at a temperature not exceeding 36° C, are essential components of Arpagodol, and its tablets contain dry extract titrated in harpagoside from selected plants that are free of contamination.
A study with patients suffering from osteoarthritis has recorded a reduction in pain in 89% of cases and, in 84%, an improvement in mobility. Excessive consumption of Harpagophytum procumbens, as with all foods, can cause undesirable effects. It is therefore necessary to respect the instructions for use indicated on the packaging of food supplements based on Harpagophytum procumbens, ensuring that the daily intake of harpagoside does not exceed 100 mg.
Harpagophytum procumbens, also known as Devil's Claw, as demonstrated by studies conducted at the University of Minufiya in Egypt and by the study commissions of the largest chiropractic associations in the world, is particularly indicated to relieve important discomfort related to the skeletal and muscular system, thanks to the action of the glycoside alkaloids, of which harpagoside is the most important, from a functional point of view.
The benefits of Harpagophytum procumbens are considered to be derived from its activity on COX-2, an isoform of an enzyme (cyclooxygenase) expressed only during inflammation under stimulation by mitogenic factors and cytokines. COX-1 is normally produced in quiescent conditions and is a constituent of healthy cells; molecules that have the characteristic of being COX-2 selective, i.e. that carry out a predominant inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) or inducible isoenzyme, with respect to the COX-1 isoform, are becoming especially important. When comparing an extract of Harpagophytum procumbens with diacerhein (a synthetic pharmacological molecule), we can see that the former has proven to be effective and better tolerated in cases of osteoarthritis of the hips and knees. It has also emerged that Harpagophytum procumbens extract is safe and effective also in cases of strong and persistent radial pain. Harpagophytum has been compared, more recently, with the more popular but dangerous refecoxib (a synthetic pharmacological molecule); the data indicate that Harpagophytum is almost as effective as refecoxib itself, but with proven nutritional safety and a complete synergistic action.
