Highly active and bioavailable Diamine Oxidase (DAO) enzyme. Ideal for the long-term dietary management of DAO deficiency.
It also contains vitamins B6, B9 and B12 and caffeine as adjuvant ingredients that work in synergy with the DAO enzyme.
With the innovative Eficaps® technology based on capsules with gastro-resistant tablets that allow the release of the active ingredients at the required time and place of action.
DAO intake via DAOhead increases the breakdown of exogenous or dietary histamine in the gut.
How does DAOhead® work?
DAOhead® Diamine Oxidase (DAO) complements the body's own enzyme responsible for metabolizing histamine. Taking one DAOhead® capsule before each meal increases the amount of DAO in the small intestine and therefore the ability to break down histamine. This accelerates the processing of the histamine in food, which is the trigger for the symptoms, in the digestive tract. DAOhead® thus restores the metabolism of histamine locally in the small intestine and restores the natural balance of histamine and DAO.
What is histamine?
Histamine is an essential molecule, a transmitter belonging to the so-called group of biogenic amines and which is naturally present in many foods as well as within our cells. Normally, the intake of histamine contained in food does not cause any problems, as it is rapidly processed and metabolized by the enzyme Diamine Oxidase (DAO).
What is DAO?
DAO is the main enzyme for the metabolism of ingested histamine. It is found mainly in the intestinal epithelium, where it absorbs and degrades ingested histamine, preventing it from passing into the bloodstream.
What happens if histamine and DAO enzyme activity are out of balance?
When there is an imbalance between the ingested histamine and the capacity or activity of the enzyme to metabolize it, histamine passes into the bloodstream and after a disproportionate uptake by receptors in the tissues can trigger various reactions. Some causes of DAO deficiency include genetic or acquired origins.
What does DAOhead® contain?
DAOhead® Eficaps® capsules contain gastro-resistant tablets with controlled release DAO in the intestine that avoid the acidic pH of the stomach and tablets that guarantee the immediate release of adjuvant active ingredients. Each capsule contains four tablets: 2 white/beige gastro-resistant tablets with DAO released in the intestine. 1 orange immediate-release tablet containing vitamin B6, B9 and B12. 1 red immediate-release tablet containing caffeine*
(*) If you cannot take caffeine, you can open the capsule and remove the red tablet.
How should DAOhead® be used?
Take 1 capsule with a little water 20 minutes before main meals (3 times a day). The capsule should be swallowed whole; if you cannot swallow it whole, open it and take the tablets separately, swallow them whole without chewing, dividing or breaking. DAO tablets have a gastro-resistant coating that allows the enzyme Diamine Oxidase (DAO) to be released not in the stomach, but in a retracted form in the small intestine, which is where it breaks down the histamine ingested in the diet. Therefore, the tablets should be taken whole, without chewing, dividing or breaking before ingestion.
Important Observations
Tablets should be swallowed whole. Histamine-free. Gluten-free. Lactose-free.
Storage
DAOhead ® contains Diamino Oxidase (DAO), a thermolabile (temperature-sensitive) enzyme that should be stored away from heat sources. No special storage precautions are required if the daily intake guidelines are followed. In case of occasional use, the product should be kept refrigerated.
